Our Vision

Jesus said, “I have come that (people) may have life and
life to the full” - John 10:10

As a church our vision is to see all people - in our local community and beyond - encounter Jesus, discover the fullness of life that He brings and become part of his message of hope for the world.

A Bit of Background

We began life as a church in 1874 which means that we recently celebrated our 150th birthday! Balham has changed a lot over these years and today is home to a vibrant and lively community with people from all walks of life, and we love being part of this.

Today, we are also a diverse and growing church community that brings together people of all ages, nationalities, backgrounds, and life stories.

We love doing life together and, like Jesus, we’re committed to welcoming people, whatever their journey, to be part of what God is doing here in Balham. As a church family, when we’re not gathering together we are spread across the capital in our homes, neighbourhoods, schools and workplaces, trying to follow Jesus wherever we find ourselves.

We are also very thankful to have a building located right in the heart of Balham. This building serves as a community hub and café space throughout the week, and is home for a wide range of people and groups from our local community including; a nursery, dance school, language classes, music lessons, fitness classes, recovery groups, various choirs, baby support classes, and much more!

We’re thankful that so many call Balham Baptist Church their home and we love building community across and between these different groups and people.

Our Values

As a church, who we are, and all we do, is rooted in four core values that shape us.

1.We are LED by God and point others towards Him

We believe that we are part of a bigger story of what God is doing to bring about healing and reconciliation in this world and we are all invited by God to be part of this. We want to support one another in the lives God has created us to live, seeking to help others find relationship and joy in God and be led by Him.

2.We INVEST in others

We value everybody around us as people who have been created in God’s image and we want to look for ongoing ways in which we can invest in each other's lives with our time, energy, resources and skills so that every one of us might flourish.

3.We celebrate being a FAMILY of diversity

As a church we believe that we’re all invited to be part of God's family through Jesus and live together as family. We all bring different stories, experiences, lives and identities and we want to recognise this as we find our unity in, and around, the person of Jesus.

4.We seek to be EQUIPPED for our frontlines and and everyday lives

Large parts of our lives are spent in our homes, workplaces, neighbourhoods, schools and other spaces with family and friends. We think of these places where we spend most of our time as our 'frontline' and as a church we want to be equipped by Jesus and one another so that we might be the good news of God’s Kingdom
