Balham Baptist Church

Where diversity matters

Who’s who?

Senior Pastor - Steve RouseSteve 2012

I have been leading the church at Balham for the past 17 years - I love it in London.  I came to Balham from Frinton On Sea in Essex. Yes I am an Essex boy but don't hold that against me.

I spent the first 10 years of my work life as a bricklayer but then God called me into Church Leadership - it's a long story so if you want to know more come and ask me sometime!

I am married to the beautiful Leisa - we have been married for 24 years.  We have two great children: Brianna who is 16 years old and our son Jackson who is 14 years old.  I enjoy watching 'Modern Family' with both of them - no seriously I do!

I enjoy sports and am currently working on my triathlon skills: Cycling, running and swimming. I enjoy music (Ben Harper is my favourite artist) and going out to eat with my wife.  We like going to the theatre and the Jazz Cafe when we get the chance.

That's me!

Associate Pastor - Jim SuttonJim

Jim joined the team in October 2013, following a call into ministry while a Maths teacher in South West London. He and his wife Sarah have been a part of the Balham community for several years, and actually met at the church on the first Sunday they visited! He loves the diversity and family ethos of the fellowship in Balham, especially when it comes to sharing people’s cultural food (jollof rice is a favourite!).

Jim has a heart for the city, although he struggles with an addiction to the sea having grown up in Plymouth, and the murky waters of the Thames don’t quite hit the spot. He is passionate about God’s mission, music (more enthusiasm than talent) and discipling people of all ages.  He is also a keen collector of punctures on his bicycle – four in one day is his current record.
