Balham Baptist Church is a friendly, family church in the heart of Balham.
We have four Values that shape our community and seek to bring life to the world we live in.
Deuteronomy 6:4-6 states:
"The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts."
We believe that God has a distinct plan and purpose for each one of us that can bring us life in all its fullness, so we try to support each other in the lives God calls us to live, as well as seeking to help those we know to find relationship and joy in God.
In Philippians 2:3-4 Paul writes:
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others"
We value each other, and look for ways in which we can invest in each other's lives with our time, energy and skills.
Ephesians 5:1 says:
"Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are His dear children"
We believe we are all God's children, and so are brothers and sisters together - however within our community we have people who are like fathers, mothers, uncles, aunties, sons, daughters, even grandchildren to us.
They may not have the same surname or be from the same background or country, but we are still family together.
Jeremiah 29:5-7 has these words:
"Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce...seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you"
We recognise that we each have large parts of our lives that we spend in jobs, in our neighbourhoods, in our families. We think of the places we spend most of our time as our 'frontline'. So as a community we seek to support and equip each other for these frontlines, as we strive to be good news to the places and communities that God leads each one of us.
